Call for Entries, 2nd Humanities Film Festival

Calling all filmmakers!  The Northern Marianas Humanities Council invites you to submit an entry in the 2nd Humanities Film Festival that will be held in June 2016.

The festival's theme is "Soudelor and the Winds of Change in the CNMI."

Natural disasters can have a profound impact on a community by bringing out the best and worst in members of that community.

Such events can fundamentally change a community and alter perspectives on humanity itself as the community grapples with two struggles: the struggle to survive and move forward and the struggle to hold on to one's humanity.

Filmmakers are invited to submit entries that explore and address the ethical, philosophical and existential questions raised in the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor.

The festival is opn to individuals who are 18 and other and current residents of the CNMI.  High school students (9th -12th grades) are also eligible to submit films.  Production companies or companies that routinely produce commercial grade videos are not eligible to participate.

Films may be submitted under three categories - Narrative, Documentary, and Student.  Entries in each of these categories may be a feature film (more than 30 minutes) or a film short (no more than 15 minutes).

In accordance with festival guidelines, submitters must have had a major creative role in the film's production.  Additionally, entries must be mostly moving pictures, not montages of still images and formatted in Quicktime MOV at 780p or higher resolution.

Entries must be received by the Humanities Council no later than 4:00 pm on Tuesday,  May 31, 2016.  Late entries or entries that do not address the festival's theme will not be considered.

Films will be screened in April at a time, date and venue to be announced.  First through third place entries in each category will receive cash prizes.
